Beauty recommendations on TikTok can be hit or miss, particularly when it comes to the best fragrances (to say the least). However, one brand’s line of scents that creators and beauty editors can’t get enough of is Sol de Janeiro’s perfume mists. Why? Because they smell impressively expensive.
Sales stats reflect the buzz these scents are getting on social, with Lookfantastic reporting the brand as a key driver for its year-on-year growth in vanilla perfumes. Cheirosa 62 Perfume Mist even took the top spot for being the most popular perfume on the site last year.
This year, we've already seen a new Sol de Janeiro perfume drop in the form of the skin-like, creamy Sol de Janeiro Cheirosa 59 and the brand also launched a highly anticipated discovery set, make up of 30ml bottles of the five most popular perfumes in the SdJ mist collection.
And now, ready for summer, there's three limited-edition scents that have been added to the line-up—and they are good. In stunningly bright neon bottles, not only do they look almost impossibly cute on the shelf, they are, undoubtedly, the most uplifting, smile-inducing summer fragrances I've come across. In fact, just a couple of mists of each while sat at my desk had the entire MCUK office flocking over and wanting in on the action.
Trust me when I say beauty insiders (including myself) can't get enough of these perfumes mists. Not only do they smell impressively expensive, they are also well loved for their bright, sunny blends that can lift any mood. In fact, some beauty editors and influencers cite these mists as some of their favourite scents ever—competing with eau de parfums ten times their price.
With now a total of six scents in the Sol de Janeiro perfume mist family, including the three summer limited-editions, there's something for everyone. Thankfully, I've put all of the Sol de Janeiro perfume mists to the test, so here's the lowdown on each one.
1. Sol de Janeiro Beijos de Sol Perfume Mist (Limited Edition)
Potentially one of my favourite Sol de Janeiro scents ever made, Beijos de Sol smells coconutty and sun cream-esque, but without any of that sun-soaked creaminess. Instead, it's brimming with juicy, succulent fruit and is watery fresh—a fine addition to any beach bag.
2. Sol de Janeiro Carioca Crush Perfume Mist (Limited Edition)
Of all the Sol de Janeiro perfume mists, this one is, in my opinion, the most lightweight. It starts of with a mouthwatering, fruity burst of pear, but things soon settle down to a very subtle, slightly creamy white floral—like fallen petals floating in an infinity pool.
3. Sol de Janeiro Summer É Amor Perfume Mist (Limited Edition)
This sadly limited-edition number is, without question, the most expensive-smelling Sol de Janeiro summer scent—and it's probably for that reason it's sold out everywhere. If you are lucky to enough to get your hands on a bottle, expect an initially sweet hit of summery florals that quickly develops into a richer, warming delight.
4. Sol de Janeiro Cheirosa '59 Perfume Mist
The latest scent launch from Sol de Janeiro, Cheirosa '59 is unlike many of the other perfume mists the brand has come out with. Void of any of the sweet, sunny vibes, this one is skin-like and warming, like cashmere blankets and warm, fluffy towels. It is skin-like, musky and has a little sweetness to it that keeps you going back for more. The only criticism? The matching Delicia Drench Body Butter has the same scent but, in my opinion, smells a little more expensive, due to the fact the perfume mist has a slightly artificial-smelling element.
5. Sol de Janeiro Brazilian Crush Cheirosa '62 Perfume Mist
This is the scent in which everyone associates with Sol de Janeiro—the scent of the brand's famous Bum Bum Cream, which many beauty enthusiasts know and love. It's deliciously sweet, uplifting and full of summer fun. It's ultra long-lasting, especially if you first layer on your Bum Bum cream and then spritz this over the top.
6. Sol de Janeiro Brazilian Crush Cheirosa '71 Perfume Mist
This one is a true gourmand, instantly enveloping with caramel, sweet vanilla, white chocolate and macadamia. The initial burst is impressively strong with just one mist (so bear this in mind for close quarters), but it does settle down on the skin where the coconut and sea salt come through. This is definitely one of the more dessert-like fragrance mists so one to try before you buy if you're not yet sure on gourmands.
7. Sol de Janeiro Brazilian Crush Cheirosa '68 Perfume Mist
Now, this is the one that people often use as a placeholder for a certain famous fragrance: Maison Francis Kurkdjian's Baccarat Rouge 540. Although, of course, the fragrances cannot be compared with the attention that goes into eau de parfums, the likeness is somewhat there. It's fruity, fresh and easy to wear. It doesn't last as long as some of the other scents do though.
8. Sol de Janeiro Rio Radiance/Cheirosa Perfume Mist
While previously a limited-edition scent, Rio Radiance was such a success that Sol de Janeiro is making this scent a permanent feature under the new name of Cheirosa 87. If elevated sunscreen scents are your thing then this is right up your street. It's a true summery fragrance with notes of coconut, tuberose (which settles really nicely on the skin) and warm sand (yep, that's a note). In short, it transports you to a beach destination.
9. Sol de Janeiro Brazilian Crush Cheirosa '40 Perfume Mist
Out of the bunch, this one seems the easiest to wear, so if you're blind buying, and you like a traditional sweet floral scent, pick this one. With notes of vanilla, plum and cassis opening and musk and woody notes at the base, it's a lovely mix which can be worn year round. It's a great middle-ground between being long-lasting and fine to wear in close quarters.
